I have been gone from the garden for about a week and it still holds great surprises for me…….
I was tickled to see this dinner plate dahlia still holding its head up high….it was perfect a week ago and pretty darn glorious now. I also picked two hand-fulls of wonderful yellow raspberries…..divine on the tastebuds (I didn’t even get into the house with them….ate ’em on the spot).
I rescued the half dozen or so Japanese eggplants from my marauding Springer puppy, who thinks its great sport to snap them off the plant and race around the yard with them: “Catch me if you can!”
I will coarsely chop them, toss with a bit of olive oil and salt and pepper and then roast them at 500 degrees for a few minutes. Serve with some rice or a handful of warm pasta and a dollop of fresh tomato sauce and well………..you get the picture.
Oh, there is no woodpecker. I do have a dead goldfinch in the freezer, but I decided that might be too much for you gentle readers. I will save the finch for the oil painting class.
