26 Nov Provide water for your winter birds
More important than food: water for your feathered friends. We keep this small water fountain/bath running for them year round. Hard to tell from this photo, but there is a pump pushing the water through the top of the fish’s mouth, the water is constantly recirculating. It is used every single day, most of the day by dozens of little winged creatures. Some not so little. You can often find the California quail or mourning doves having a sip. Today, a fat robin stopped by.
Yes, we have to check it and break the ice. If it gets really cold, say down to zero, we will have to put a stock tank heater in there for a while. But so far, we have not had to do that.
It’s important for the birds, and provides us with all kinds of entertainment.
