Memorial Day and Peonies

Gardening 365 – Day 151

Dear Grandmother and Granddad,

If I were going to make the drive to the Palouse, and the Clearwater, to decorate graves, this is what I would have to offer. I remember well: wrap fresh aluminum foil around 3# coffee cans, place them carefully in a box in the trunk of the Chrysler, a little water in each can. Arrange white spirea, lilacs, bearded iris, any nice leftover tulips with big fat peonies. Take potato salad and cold fried chicken. Pay your respects.

I miss you.
