From Robbie Dee Alice

Just had the great pleasure of staying with my forever gal pal Robin and her husband Mark at their farmette near Brush Prairie, Washington. Mark the Man, who has his very own man-cave and poker chip collection, is a kick butt bar-B-Q master of ribs. Robin laid it on thick herself with a pile of gorgeous red and yellow cherry tomatoes, perfect cucumbers that looked like they came from a grocery store (seeds from Territorial and soon as I get the name I will share it with you) but had all the flavor of home grown. Then, she dazzled us with three varieties of warm blueberries right off the bushes. Oh, and the blackberries! These blackberries were huge and from the vines that run amouk on their property. Not all of the vines yield good berries, but the tasty ones are worth the scouting and taste-testing effort.

And then there was this dessert to die for:

Blackberry Sherbet:

In a blender or food processor, whirl 3 cups (about 1lb) rinsed blackberries, 1&1/4 cups sugar, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, and 1/8 teaspoon salt until smooth.
Press through a fine strainer into a bowl; discard seeds. Taste, and add more sugar (up to ¼ cup) if desired.
Stir in 1&1/2 cups half-and-half (light cream). Cover and chill until cold, about 1 hour.
Pour into an ice cream maker (1&1/2 qt. or larger capacity); freeze according to manufacturer’s directions until mixture is softly frozen. Serve soft, or freeze airtight until firm, about 3 hours, or up to 3 days. Makes about 1 quart, 6-8 servings.

The color of this sherbet is a wonder in itself.

Robin also makes jam from the blackberries and a combo blackberry-raspberry jam she says is delish. Rock on Robin!

Oh, and then there were the thin and gorgeous scallions/green onions from the walla walla seedlings. And the Nikko blue hydrangea that was dazzling. And the coyotes a-howlin at night………just another day in Paradise.

Woops, almost forgot to give Mark the Man a shout out for his outstanding bonzai! collection, some of the trees he has tended for twenty years. That my friends, is why he is Mark, the Man!
