CSA Distribution #15, from Earthly Delights

I could barely lug the bag to the car tonite…..it was THAT heavy! I just adore my weekly pickups at the Garden of Earthly Delights. Actually, I adore the gardener and admire the garden. It was a haul, I tell you. Here the list:

Summer squash, your choice of zukes or summer yellow crookneck

Eggplant

Cucumbers (and a referral to a website for making tzatziki), and I chose Armenian and lemon cukes

Tomatoes…..as many as you could haul away and you could take any of them: medium cherry, medium slices, and humongo Brandywines. I took a bunch of Brandywines…..to go with the mozzarella and basil.

A huge bag of basil for making pesto (Casey rotates this throughout the season so each week someone gets a big bag)

Tomatillos

Fresh warm stawberries

Scallions

Garlic

Green beans

Carrots, baby orange and purples

Swiss chard

Cayenne peppers (last week I made up some pepper vinegar with mine)

Small red onions

Small warm delish green table grapes from another CSA subscriber, Scooter Cole. Thank you scooter!

And here is our gardener’s recipe for Late Summer Soup

Chop up tomatoes, green beans, carrots, squash, and chard. Saute’ onions and garlic in olive oil in a large pot. When the alliums are soft, add the chopped veggies and simmer as long as you like, 45 minutes minimum. Add the hot pepper, salt and black pepper and any herbs you like. Enjoy.
