You would think after a zillion years I would get OVER the Seattle Flower Show. Uh, no.
Officially known as the Northwest Flower and Garden Show, this year it will be held February 14-18th. So, boys and girls, listen up, this makes an outstanding gift………..for Christmas and/or as a Valentine Day present. Grab the little hunney, check yourself into a nice hotel, get some tickets and off you go! Your darling or inner gardener will be tickled pink and you will look like the hero I know you are. By clicking on the highlighted name of the show in this paragraph, you will be directed to the official site where you can purchase tickets and peruse travel and accomodation information.
I love the Seattle Sheraton because it is directly next door to the show venue. It is more expensive than some of the hotels listed on the website, but for me, to be next door and able to go back and forth between seminars……well, it is worth it. And if you call them, work them over for a good deal. Mention that you have AAA, AARP or whatEVER to get their attention and a reduced rate.
The other swell place is the Fairmont Olympic Hotel, right downtown, close to the Convention Center. Once upon a time, we had a junior suite, celebrated Valentine’s, and went to the garden show. That may have been the time my husband decided the garden show wasn’t all that boring. Oh, yeah, and we had Glacier Blue martinis at lunch in the Georgian Room. Must have been 23 at the time because if I had a martini for lunch these days, it would be the last thing I did all day. The mini suite was swweeeeeeeet. I couldn’t find any special package deals today when I checked, but I do recall they had a Valentine special 20 years ago.
And the Flower Show website has a list of good places to stay. The Roosevelt is a block from the show, the rooms are nicely appointed – not a lot of room – very affordable. The Paramount is a little farther away, and lovely, as is the Westin. The Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza is a typical Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza. I have stayed there, it’s nice enough, my least favorite.
Tickets for the show are available now as well (click on the highlighted show link above). You can buy these online and print them out. Now wouldn’t that be a dandy little stocking stuffer?
