Gardens of the Wild Wild West

Gardening is civil and social, but it wants the vigor and freedom of the forest and the outlaw. ~H.D. Thoreau

Gardening 365, Day 32

February1

There is no end to the crazy stuff I am finding as I go through my old boxes of photos and gardening junk. OK, so this isn’t junk. Here’s are two more pages from my 1982 and 1983 gardening journal.

We lived in Lexington Park, Maryland. I was a devotee of Mel Bartholomew’s Square Foot Gardening. Obviously a good idea, since Mel’s book has been reprinted a gazillion times and the latest version can be had right here: All NEW Square Foot Gardening.

Folks, here’s a little tidbit: if you are reading this and you live in Idaho, DO NOT insist on adding lime to your garden soil recipe a’la Mel. Do not. Thank you. Your soil will thank you. Your garden will thank you.
