You've already accomplished much this spring, Mary Ann! I am glad that I read about how you handle Dahlias. Yesterday, I bought several and decided to start them indoors. I've never grown them before.

Last spring, I planted some rhubarb plants from my parent's garden in my front garden, among roses, tomatoes, swiss chard, tomatillos, herbs, several creeping veronicas, gazanias and one pumpkin plant. I loved the way everything came together. The garden looked wonderful. I'm planning a repeat this year.

I wish I had some raspberry canes. What a great way to cover a chain link fence.

This makes me want to come over and do some gardening with you! Then maybe you could come over and give me a little design advice. I just planted bok choi...good idea with the poppies and calendula. Maybe I'll walk over to the nursery this afternoon and pick up some seeds.

Hmmmm... interesting about the dahlias, I didn't know that either. My Dad used to plant a few dahlias in his vegetable garden, maybe I should, too? On the rhubarb, I heard a rumor that your dog dug them up after you planted them. Care to confirm?

That's a great use of a chainlink fence. I wish I could come up with something as good. I love the idea of food plants mixed in with ornamentals. I have to try that in my new garden area out front in the sun.

March is terribly wicked my friend, but April is only three days hence. Hang in there. My snow melted. You were a great girl to get that rhubarb planted. You know, we can't grow it here. It sits in the box stores, but it doesn't work because of our withering heat I guess.~~Dee

Hi Mary Ann, your plans sound great. I like the idea of mixing food and flowers. Rhubarb is so pretty, I might plant it just as an ornamental. Calendulas are something I have never had luck with, it sounds like sowing while the soil is still cool is the answer. I join you in saying hurry up April!

Well, you are well ahead of me, MA. I find your dahlia methodology interesting. Perhaps I will try it, but I'll need to start them inside first to get summer flowers.
